The second day of the JUDO GRAND PRIX DÜSSELDORF 2012 offered very tight and tense fights with many spectacular techniques. The Champions of the day are: Ole BISCHOF (Germany), Rasa SRAKA (Slovenia), Varlam LIPARTELIANI (Georgia), Kayla HARRISON (USA), RAKOV Maxim (Kazakhstan), Lucija POLAVDER (Slovenia) and Andreas TOELZER (Germany).

Men’s -81 kg. Category: The Golden Bischof

The Gold medalist of the JUDO GRAND PRIX DÜSSELDORF 2012, at Men’s -81 kg. Category is Ole BISCHOF (Germany). The first final of the day was a spectacular and close one. In the lasts 30 seconds, the great public favorite, Ole BISCHOF (4th place on the IJF World Ranking List – WRL) won, by ippon, with a leg technique (ko-soto-gake) against the French judoka Alain SCHMITT.
The favorites Elnur MAMMADLI (AZE - WRL 3), -73kg Olympic Champion in Beijing in 2008, and Ole BISCHOF (GER - WRL 4), the -81kg Olympic Champion, winner in Paris, last week and Alain SCHMITT (FRA - WRL 11) qualified for semis. Other well seeded judoka as Sven MARESCH (GER - WRL 9), Takahiro NAKAI (JPN - WRL 5), Guillaume ELMONT (NED - WRL 13) or Euan BURTON (GBR - WRL 12) lost in the preliminaries.

Semifinals: The first semifinal offered a real close fight. After Golden Score, Alain SCHMITT won at han-tei against Elnur MAMMADLI.
In the second semifinal, Ole BISCHOF won, after a very tight contest, by ippon with juji-gatame, against the young French judoka Loic PIETRI.
The bronze medals were won by Loic PIETRI (France) and Elnur MAMMADLI (Azebaidjan).
Final: Ole BISCHOF (Germany) won by ippon with a leg technique (ko-soto-gake) against the French judoka Alain SCHMITT.

Women’s -70 kg. Category: Close Contest Brings Gold to Slovenia

The winner of the Gold medal of the JUDO GRAND PRIX DÜSSELDORF 2012 at the Women’s -70 kg. Category is Rasa SRAKA (Slovenia). The final offered an interesting contest, but without spectacular techniques. Rasa SRAKA (Slovenia), the 8th judoka in the WRL, won against the surprising Brazilian Maria PORTELA, after two small penalties (shido).
In a category where the hierarchy is well established, the top seeded athletes Yoriko KUNIHARA (JPN - WRL 4), Ye-Sul HWANG (KOR - WRL 5), bronze medalist in Paris in early February, and Rasa SRAKA (SLO -), winner of the World Cup in Mongolia in 2011, qualified in semis. Lucie DECOSSE (FRA - WRL 1), as well as Edith BOSCH (NED (WRL 2) and Haruka TACHIMOTO (JPN, WRL 3) were not in attendance at the Grand Prix this weekend and are in a preparatory phase for the London Games.

Semifinals: In the first semifinal, the public assisted again at very tense contest. Finally, the most experienced judoka, Rasa SRAKA, defeated Onix CORTES ALDAMA (Cuba), after two shido.
In the other semifinal, the outsider judoka, PORTELA Maria (Brazil) won by ippon against the favorite Yoriko KUNIHARA. The bronze medals were won by Yoriko KUNIHARA (Japan) and Onix CORTES ALDAMA (Cuba).
Final: Rasa SRAKA (Slovenia) won against Maria PORTELA (Brazil).

Men’s -90 kg. Category: Georgian Strength Continues

The champion at Men’s -90 kg. Category at the JUDO GRAND PRIX DÜSSELDORF 2012 is LIPARTELIANI Varlam (Georgia).

A new final, very tight, but unfortunately not very spectacular. Again two shido, again Gold. LIPARTELIANI Varlam (Georgia) won against SONG Dae-Nam (Korea). Many surprises at Men’s -90 kg. Category. ONO Takashi (JPN - WRL 4), the former world number one in the men's -90kg category, who stands in a risky position, despite his 4th place in the world ranking list, a position synonymous with Olympic qualification, (he has now two Japanese judoka ranked higher than him), Asley GONZALES (CUB - WRL 6) and Elkhan MAMMADOV (AZE - WRL 11) lost in preliminaries. In the absence of world number one, Olympic Champion and World Champion, Ilias ILIADIS (GRE - WRL 1), the competition offered outsider semifinalists.

Semifinals: In the first semifinal, LIPARTELIANI Varlam (Georgia) won after a spectacular ippon against DAFREVILLE Yves Matthieu (France).
In the other semifinal two Koreans: SONG Dae-Nam won against LEE Kyu-Won.
The bronze medals were won by DAFREVILLE Yves Matthieu (France) and LEE Kyu-Won (Korea)
Final: LIPARTELIANI Varlam (Georgia) won against SONG Dae-Nam (Korea).

Women’s -78 kg. Category: Stars and Stripes Wave in Düsseldorf

The winner of the Gold medal of the JUDO GRAND PRIX DÜSSELDORF 2012 at the Women’s -78 kg. Category is Kayla HARRISON (USA). In the final, the top seeded judoka Kayla HARRISON (United States - WRL 4), World Champion in 2010, and Xiuli YANG (CHN - WRL 6), the reigning Olympic champions offered a very interesting and tense contest. Finally, after the Golden Score, after many attacks and counterattacks, the winner was decided at hantei, on a split decision, in favor of the American judoka.

Semifinals:In the first semifinal, Kayla HARRISON won against the German judoka WOLLERT Heide.
The second semifinal offered a new tense fight. YANG Xiuli won against VERKERK Marhinde (Netherlands);
The bronze medals were won by WOLLERT Heide (Germany) and VERKERK Marhinde (Netherlands).
Final: Kayla HARRISON (United States) won at hantei against Xiuli YANG (China).

Men’s -100 kg. Category: Big Favorite Wins the Gold

The Gold medalist of the JUDO GRAND PRIX DÜSSELDORF 2012, at Men’s -100 kg. Category is RAKOV Maxim (Kazakhstan). In a close final, the World number one, Maxim RAKOV (KAZ - WRL 1), had to defended his ranking position against Hee-Tae HWANG (KOR - WRL 7). The contest was again tense. In the Golden Score, the favorite won after two shido.
Naidan TUVSHINBAYAR (MGL - WRL 5), recent winner of the Paris Tournament, who wants in a few months, will replay his Olympic title obtained in Beijing four years ago, lost in his first fight against the Russian judoka Zafar MAKHMADOV.

Semifinals:In the first semifinal offered a splendid fight, between two strong athletes, Maxim RAKOV and Ramadan DARWISH. The contest was won, in the Golden Score, by the favorite judoka from Kazakhstan, by ippon.
In the second semifinal, HWANG Hee –Tae won by ippon, after a spectacular throw in the second minute, against Zafar MAKHMADOV (Russia).
The bronze medals were won by Zafar MAKHMADOV (Russia) and Ramadan DARWISH (Egypt).
Final: Maxim RAKOV (Kazakhstan)won against Hee-Tae HWANG (Korea).

Women’s +78 kg. Category: David Beat Again Goliath

The Gold medalist of the JUDO GRAND PRIX DÜSSELDORF 2012, at Women’s +78 kg. Category is Lucija POLAVDER (Slovenia). The final was a fight between two feminine modern “David and Goliath”. The WRL number 5, Lucija POLAVDER (Slovenia) won against the “Korean Goliath”, KIM Na-Young (WRL 7), 40 kilograms heavier, after a spectacular shoulder throw (seoi-nage). On the other hand, a category without surprises. All the favorites - Lucija POLAVDER (SLO - WRL 5), Elena IVASCHCHENKO (RUS - WRL 6), Na-Young KIM (KOR – WRL 7) and Idalys ORTIZ (CUB - WRL 8) were qualified in the semis.

Semifinals:In the first semifinal, Lucija POLAVDER won against Idalys ORTIZ.
In the other semifinal, KIM Na-Young won, after the disqualification (honsuku-make) of Elena IVASCHCHENKO.
The bronze medals were won by Idalys ORTIZ (Cuba) and IVASCHCHENKO Elena (Russia).
Final: Lucija POLAVDER (Slovenia) won against KIM Na-Young (Korea).

Men’s +100 kg. Category: Toelzer Crowns Golden End to Düsseldorf Grand Prix

The winner of Men +100 kg. Category, at the JUDO GRAND PRIX DÜSSELDORF 2012 is Andreas TOELZER (Germany). The final offered a spectacular contest, during which we were treated to a series of attacks and counterattacks. Finally, the public favorite, Andreas TOELZER won against OKRUASHVILI Adam (Georgia), after a sacrifice technique (sumi-gaeshi). In the absence of the would be “king” RINER, Andreas TOELZER (GER - WRL 2), the world number two, winner last year in Düsseldorf dispute his title, obtained in the same venue, had to fight tough to keep the title. The other favorites, Kim Sung-Min (KOR - WRL 5), bronze medalist last week in Oberwart (Austria), Oscar BRAYSON (CUB - WRL 9) and Barna BOR (HUN - WRL 7) lost in the preliminaries.
Semifinals: In the first semifinal, Andreas TOELZER won against CHO Guham (Korea);
In the last semifinal of the day, OKRUASHVILI Adam (Georgia) won by ippon with ura-nage (counter technique) against SUZUKI Keiji (Japan).
The bronze medals were won by SUZUKI Keiji (Japan) and CHO Guham (Korea).
Final: Andreas TOELZER (Germany) won against OKRUASHVILI Adam (Georgia).
